Werner Schierk studied law at the universities of Hamburg and Freiburg, Germany. 1975 admission to the bar; thereafter Mr. Schierk joined the legal department of Hapag-Lloyd AG, the German transportation and tourism group, became head of legal affairs of Hapag-Lloyd’s Airline and head of the tax department of Hapag-Lloyd Group.

Since 1983 Werner Schierk is working as an independent professional lawyer mainly in the aviation business. In 1994 he founded with Dr. Gudrun Bechtloff the law firm of Schierk & Bechtloff with offices in Hamburg and Berlin, however Werner Schierk and Dr. Gudrun Bechtloff already worked together in the law firm Dr. Schwarz, Schierk & Partner, specialized in aviation matters, since 1985.

Werner Schierk was/respectively is involved with advising and supporting

  • airlines in respect of all legal issues of their business
  • MROs with regard to engine- and structural repair
  • the German Air Carriers’ Association in disputes with airports and authorities
  • an US aircraft manufacturer on certification issues
  • the first IAE V2500 Maintenance and Repair Agreement
  • the launching customer Purchase Agreement for B737-800 and
  • the first B737-800 Winglet Agreement which was concluded worldwide.

Apart from his legal work:

2004 – 2011: Member of the board of deputies with the Ministry of Economics and Labour of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
